Hopewell teacher killed in crash

By Sarah Batista

Huntersville,NC (WBTV) - Students, faculty and staff at Hopewell High School are mourning the loss of a popular teacher.

Michael Healey died Tuesday afternoon in a car crash on Sam Furr Road.

Police say his Corvette spun into the path of a tanker truck. The truck slammed into the passenger side killing the 58-year-old teacher.

Patrick Cameron and Luke Augspurger were students in Healy's computer science class.

It was because of Mr. Healy, that Cameron chose to study computer science in college.

"He was probably by far one of my favorite teachers," said Cameron.

"He taught his classes the way he wanted to teach classes, he definitely understood the way students learn,"said Augspurger.

Grief counselors will be on hand at Hopewell Monday when students and teachers return from break.
