ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - The Sheriff's office in Rowan County is looking for two suspects they believe posed as utility workers to gain access into a woman's home and steal money.
According to the victim, the men, who were wearing orange work vests, said they were utility workers and needed to check out her power lines.
While the elderly woman spoke with one of the men, deputies believe the other went inside the victim's house and stole money from her purse.
According to deputies the suspects were traveling in a 2008 Blue GMC truck with SC license plate 4024DV.
One of the suspects has been identified by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office as Johnny Sherlock of Augusta, South Carolina. Sherlock and others have been involved in similar crimes, according to authorities.
Deputies refer to this as the "Irish Traveler's Scam". Suspects usually work in pairs and hit homes close to highways and interstates.
