School put on Lockdown as Police Catch Armed Robbery Suspect

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - An elementary school in Northwest Charlotte was put on lockdown for more than 30 minutes as police took a robbery suspect into custody Thursday morning.

Police tell WBTV that a woman was robbed of her purse in the Target parking lot on Northlake Commons Parkway just after 8:30 a.m.

The suspect left the area in a stolen Impala, which was taken during a carjacking Wednesday at a McDonald's on Callabridge Court.

Police caught up with him on Beatties Ford Road and Frank Vance Road where he jumped from the vehicle and ran into the woods.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later.
