MINT HILL, NC (WBTV) - Police officers are looking for the person or persons responsible for a string of car break ins which happened overnight in Mint Hill.

Sixteen vehicles were broken into between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Four of the break ins were in the Jefferson Colony neighborhood off NC Highway 218.  One of the victims said the burglar actually came onto the victim's front porch and stole a few items.

In each of the incidents, police tell WBTV the vehicles were not locked and small electronic items such as GPS devices were stolen.  One victim reported a missing credit card that was used several times Tuesday morning around 4:30.

There were six victims in the Glencroft subdivision.  Those incidents occurred on Fultram Lane, Brookgreen Drive and Dartmoor Place.  Again, all of the vehicles were left unlocked and portable electronics were stolen.

A home near the Glencroft subdivision on South Hampton Road was also victimized.  There, the suspects entered four vehicles and two enclosed utility trailers that were unlocked.  Tools and car stereo equipment were stolen.  One of the neighbors reportedly saw a white male wearing all black clothing get into one of these vehicles.

There have been 58 other car break ins/enterings reported in Mint Hill this year.

Residents should call the Mint Hill Police Department at 704-545-1085 to report any information about these crimes.
