Huntersville Wreck Claims Second Person

A teenager who was critically injured in a wreck in July passed away on Friday according to Captain Michael Kee with Huntersville Police.

The wreck happened July 15th on Kerns Road off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road around 7:34 p.m.

According to the Huntersville Police, witnesses said two vehicles were traveling north on the road at a high rate of speed.

Tad Allen Daugherty of Cornelius was driving a 1998 Toyota 4 Runner.  Police say he crossed the center line and swerved back to the right.  He ran off the road and rolled over.

Both Daugherty and his passenger, Daniel Hyde Latimer of Huntersville, were thrown from the vehicle.

Daugherty died at the scene.  Latimer was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and died 10 days later.

Police said alcoholic beverages were located in the vehicle at the scene, but they are not certain if the driver or passenger had consumed alcohol prior to the crash.

Daugherty and Latimer were recent graduates of Hopewell High School in Huntersville.
