Firefighters nurse tiny hummingbird back to health with bottle cap of water

CHESTER COUNTY, SC (WBTV) - When firefighters with Richburg Fire and Rescue found a tiny hummingbird on the floor of their station bay, they knew something was wrong.

According to a Facebook post, the tiny bird was weak and unable to fly.

"We found a hummingbird laying on the floor in the engine bay this morning that was exhausted and dehydrated," the Facebook post explained.

Members of the department worked with the bird and used a bottle cap to deliver sips of water into its eager beak.

"Several members worked with the bird until it was able to stand and fly away.  This isn't the first time this has happened and knowing our members,  it will not be the last!" the post said.

Here's how the post explained what can't be taught in emergency services:

You can teach almost anyone how to be a firefighter, a medic or just about anything imaginable. What is virtually impossible to teach is compassion. We are fortunate that we have a tremendous group in our department that has passion and desire to help, regardless of the situation.
