ICARD, NC (WBTV) - A Lenoir man accused of murder will face the death penalty after fatally beating a woman in June.
Joshua Beard, 37, was arrested by officers in Myrtle Beach in connection to the murder of 63-year-old Robin B. Teague at her home in Burke County.
Officials say Teague was found in her home on the 2200 block of U.S. Highway 70, in Icard, around 7:30 p.m. June 17 by one of her daughters. When deputies and medical crews arrived, they found Teague deceased on the floor inside.
Authorities say Teague was killed by blunt force trauma to the head.
Sheriff Steve Whisenant says investigators developed Beard as a suspect through "Old-fashioned police work."
Whisenant says people were interviewed, tips were followed and leads developed. A key lead came from surveillance video from a local car wash that showed a truck driving on highway 70 just after the time of the murder.
"That's how we developed a suspect," said Whisenant.
