HARTFORD, CT (WFSB/CNN) – Police are expressing regret amid an internal affairs investigation into comments reportedly made by one Connecticut officer about using his gun on four people if they tried to fight or run.

A video of Sgt. Stephen Barone surfaced on Facebook Thursday following his response to a trespassing complaint.

During the investigation, Barone confronted four people, at least one of whom was a minority.

"If anybody wants to fight or run, I’m a little trigger happy, guys. I’m not going to lie,” said Barone in the video.

The group, who appear to have been seated in front of Barone, were to be checked for drugs and weapons.

"I get paid a ton of money in overtime, if I have to shoot somebody. Don't do anything stupid,” Barone said.

No one was hurt in the incident and it’s unclear if anyone was arrested, but Hartford Police are investigating. Barone has been placed on administrative leave.

"Those statements are entirely unacceptable and represent a fundamental disregard for the conduct we expect and the standards we hold ourselves to,” said Assistant Chief Rafael Medina. "It's not how we train our officers to interact with the public, and it's very concerning. As officers of the law, we can’t act like that."

Barone was previously suspended following an incident where another officer was caught on camera stomping a handcuffed suspect. Though Barone didn’t attack the suspect, he was suspended for failing to comply with procedures.

"We don't hold history against our officers. He was punished, he served his time and we don't hang that over anyone's head," Medina said.

Barone was promoted last year.

Police did not say force was used in Thursday’s incident, but they say officers shouldn’t casually be tossing around comments such as those used by Barone.
