Hwy 17 reopens near McClellanville after deadly auto-pedestrian accident

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office and Awendaw-McClellanville crews are investigating a deadly auto-pedestrian accident that happened early Monday morning

The collision, which occurred near Highway 17 and Duffield Road, closed the southbound lanes around 12:30 a.m before reopening around 4:00 a.m.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found the victim on Highway 17 and immediately closed the lanes for safety and to preserve evidence. 

According to the Awendaw-McClellanville consolidated fire district, this is the first fatal crash on Highway 17 in their district this year after they responded to 12 in 2017.
