BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Both southbound lanes of US 17 in Brunswick County have reopened following a three-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer Friday morning.

According to officials with Brunswick County Dispatch, the accident was first reported just before 10:20 a.m. on US 17 and Edgewood Lane in the Winnabow area south of Leland.

According to Trooper Gardner with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the driver of a tractor-trailer was approaching slower traffic on US 17 and attempted to slow down. The tractor-trailer then went into the left lane and hit the rear of a trailer being towed by a Ford F-350 which was pushed into another car.

No serious injuries were reported.

Southbound traffic on US 17 was temporarily diverted onto one of the northbound lanes, essentially making US 17 a two-lane road, while crews worked to clear the scene.

HAZMAT crews were also dispatched to help clean up diesel fuel that was spilled in the crash.

Both southbound lanes were reopened around 1 p.m., according to a tweet from the N.C. Department of Transporation
