BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Officials in Burke County have arrested three people on breaking and entering related charges.
According to a Burke County Sheriff's report, the department was investigating numerous reports of car break-ins near Hopewell Road from June 27 through July 24. The suspects were stealing miscellaneous items including gas from the victims' vehicles.
On July 24 at 4 a.m., officials say a deputy was patrolling the area of Hopewell Road when he noticed a vehicle parked on the side of the road. Officials say Jessica Lynn Exline was sitting in the driver's seat when she told the deputy that she ran out of gas and her friends went to get some fuel.
While talking to Exline, Michael Denton Jr. and David Patrick Burhans walked up to the vehicle from different locations, the report stated. Both men were arrested on unrelated charges.
After conducting interviews and obtaining search warrants for two homes, warrants were issued on the three suspects.
Officials are asking anyone with information reading the car break-ins to call Crime Stoppers at 828-437-3333.
