CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A Rock Hill man was arrested on Friday who police say sexually assaulted a woman after offering her a ride in Charlotte a week earlier.

Robert A. Thorne, 38, was arrested in Rock Hill and charged with rape, kidnapping, assault on a female, and interference with emergency communications.

Investigators say around 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 27, a 24-year-old woman was walking near North Tryon Street and 26th Street when Thorne offered her a ride home.

Instead of taking her home, police say, Thorne drove the victim to a secluded area, sexually assaulted her, then left her on the 400 block of W. 24th Street.

There is no word on what evidence led to Thorne being named as a suspect in the case.

CMPD announced Thorne's arrest during a press conference in uptown Charlotte Friday afternoon. During that press conference, officers also gave more information about another reported sexual assault that happened earlier in the morning.
