Man robs gas station with customers inside

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are looking for a dangerous crook who committed armed robbery without showing a gun in front of stunned customers.

From surveillance video, a man in his 20's walks into the Circle K station at Graham and West 10th at 1:00 a.m. Saturday.  Noticeably, he's got his hand in his pocket.

He initially looks around, then cues up in a long line of people at the checkout counter.

"He comes in acts like a regular customer, even goes to the ATM, engages conversation with the clerk, at first," said CMPD Detective Brandon Miller.

We don't know what was said, but we do see him casually stand where he can take in a side view of the clerk.

"We think this is where he was seeing if there were any kind of weapons or any alarm system or anything back there they could possibly use against him."
Then, with that hand still in his pocket, he makes his move.

"The clerk says, I see what you're doing, he replies back to her, 'I gotta gun, don't move.'"

His language was a bit more colorful.  After calling her a name, he says to open the cash register or he'll shoot.

She opens the register and he grabs handfuls of big bills in front of customers who are watching with expressions of disbelief.

"The two customers were shocked this man would do this right in front of them let alone with three other employees inside the store."

Once he has the loot, he runs out and disappears into the night.

"With this guy coming in a doing this in the middle of the night with a store full of customers and employees, very dangerous individual that we definitely want off the streets."

Detective Miller believes he may live nearby.  He was wearing khaki pants, a blue shirt, a white ball cap with a green front and the word "Miami" on it.

If you know him and would like to earn a nice cash reward, call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 and you can do so anonymously.
