STANLEY, NC (WBTV) - A woman in Gaston County is facing child abuse charges after her 8-month-old son had to be hospitalized in Charlotte for a week, according to warrants from the Stanley Police Department.
Keyeira D. Harrison, 30, is charged with felony intentional child abuse and felony negligent child abuse both resulting in serious bodily injury.
The warrants state Harrison's son was at Levine Children's Hospital with a subdural hematoma, or brain bleeding, and bilateral retinal hemorrhaging. Investigators allege the injuries were non-accidental.
The warrants also state the infant suffered from malnutrition due to being fed "a combination of 1% cow's milk and 6 ounces of water" instead of baby formula.
Police say they got involved after staff at the hospital suspected the child was being abused due to his injuries.
Harrison was arrested on the charges Wednesday.
No further information has been released.
