CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - Police say a woman has been charged with murder in connection with the "suspicious" death of a man in Concord Friday morning.
Markeysa Lastarza Sherrill, 38, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Michael Lee Washington, who was found dead inside a home on Melrose Drive near Crowell Drive just before 5 a.m.
Officials tweeted about the investigation around 7:20 a.m. Friday.
Just before 11 a.m., officers identified Washington and said his death was being investigated as a homicide.
Several hours later, Sherrill was in custody.
Investigators say the suspect was known to stay with Washington on occasion. They believe some type of altercation occurred between the two and Sherrill stabbed Washington.
Sherrill was taken to the Cabarrus County Jail where she is being held without bond.
