A 16-year-old was shot during a fight in Lancaster County Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened on Elliott Street in Lancaster around 5:30 p.m. Deputies said between 15 and 20 people gathered in a parking lot on the dead end street "for the purpose of either watching or participating in a fight."
The teen was involved in a physical altercation with someone in the parking lot, deputies say. Another man then reportedly started shooting during the fight, according to the sheriff's office.
All of the parties involved fled from the area before deputies arrived on scene. Deputies found shell casings and blood in the parking lot.
The victim was taken to Springs Memorial but was later transferred to another facility for treatment, deputies say.
Sheriff Barry Faile released this statement:
“There were a lot of people out there when this occurred and we are not getting a whole lot of cooperation from witnesses. I urge anyone with information about this incident to do the right thing and come forward. As a community, it is unacceptable to remain silent and tolerate this type of criminal behavior.”
