ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Rowan County detention officer accused of smuggling drugs into the detention center was arrested Wednesday.
Raymond Heath Moore, 32, is accused of bringing drugs, tobacco, and lighters into the facility for money.
Officials obtained a search warrant for Moore's car Wednesday after reviewing surveillance video and interviewing inmates.
"Evidence was uncovered during the search and investigation which confirmed the suspicions that Moore was smuggling contraband into the facility and providing it to as many as four inmates," deputies say. "On at least five occasions, the contraband was marijuana."
Moore was fired immediately.
Moore was charged with conspiracy to deliver marijuana, delivery of marijuana, possess with intent to deliver marijuana, and providing marijuana at the Rowan County Detention Center. Moore was given a $40,000 bond and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center.
Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible for Moore and others potentially involved.
