ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - An investigation is underway after a Kannapolis church was vandalized.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the pastor at Unity United Methodist Church on Unity Church Road in Kannapolis arrived Tuesday morning to find someone had defecated in his chair and poured grape juice all over his desk.
The pastor also noticed that cameras in the sanctuary had been taken down and explicit language was written on boards inside two classrooms.
There was also fire extinguisher powder all over floors, walls, and furniture throughout the church, deputies say.
"Somebody needs Jesus is the easiest thing I can come up with," said church member Ronnie Bentley. "This used to be a quiet area out here but it seems like drugs has got worse, kids are being left on their own longer and getting into all kinds of mischief."
Captain John Sifford of the Rowan Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday that detectives have suspects in mind, but no arrests have been made as of yet.
"I think that's a pretty low down thing for someone to do to a place of worship that means a lot to a lot of people," Captain Sifford said.
