CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A woman was robbed at gunpoint while making a deposit at an ATM in the Ballantyne area late Tuesday night.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the armed robbery occurred around 11:30 p.m. at an Bank of America ATM located in the 13800 block of Conlan Circle. Police say a 22-year-old woman was making an deposit when she was robbed at gunpoint by a masked man.
When she was approached by a fellow in a mask who demanded the money from her, she complied. He took off in an unknown direction. We've got some pretty good leads and some information we're working on," said CMPD spokesperson Rob Tufano. "This person did exactly what she should have done, gave this assailant – the suspect exactly what he was looking for and lived to tell the story."
The woman was not injured during the incident, police say.
A Viva Chicken employee was also robbed at gunpoint at the same ATM last week. According to a police report, the employee had $400 and a $2,400 bank deposit stolen by a person at the ATM on July 1.
"Nothing at this point to suggest there is a connection," Tufano said. "But we're not foolish enough to believe that there could be something there that needs to be looked at and you better believe we have the right people looking at it. They're going to move heaven and earth to figure out just what's going on out there."
A spokesperson for Bank of America says "Safety is always our priority, and we are working closely with law enforcement."
The bank also provides advice regarding security and fraud prevention for debit cards and ATM cards.
