A South Carolina man accused of killing a 30-year-old mother in York County was denied bond in a court hearing on Monday.

Steven Tyler Benfield, of Blacksburg, appeared in court for a bond hearing related to charges in connection with the 2015 death of Jessica Pitman Stewart.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, Stewart's body was found in the backyard of a home along the 14000 block of West Highway 55, in Clover, in August 2015. Deputies then charged Benfield with murder in Stewart's death.

The 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office states that Benfield’s bond was denied on Monday.

Stewart had two daughters and several others who loved and cared about her.

“It turns my world upside-down. She was my life and everything I loved and everything I cared about, and I wanted to give her the world,” said Stewart’s boyfriend Michael Thomas.
