CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway held a news conference Monday in uptown Charlotte officially announcing the name of the September 30 race as the Bank of America ROVAL 400.
It's the first ever road course race in the Monster Energy Cup playoffs which should be very exciting with a lot of unknowns in the third race of the post-season, a very pivotal cut-off position for teams on the bubble trying to advance to the next round.
They officially announced the length of the race to be 400 kilometers long, or 109 laps on the 2.28-mile combo course and that makes it the longest road course in NASCAR with stages of 25 laps, 25 more laps and 59 laps.
The two year experiment of working on and fine tuning the roval is currently over, much to the liking of Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith who championed this project.
He says it should be lots of fun for the fans promising great views from all parts of the grandstands.
