SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

From the LandTrust for Central North Carolina: Earlier this summer, Morrow Mountain State Park added 45 acres of land on the south side of Mountain Creek to its holdings. The addition was made possible by a partnership between the landowners, Ron and Nancy Bryant, The Salisbury-based LandTrust for Central NC, and North Carolina State Parks.

Morrow Mountain State Park will host a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the new acquisition at 10 a.m. on July 26 at the park lodge near the main office. The Friends of Morrow Mountain State Park will provide refreshments.

The new property has over 3,000 linear feet of stream frontage on Mountain Creek, a stream that is home to rare mussels and exceptional water quality. The site protects a unique hardwood forest ecosystem with several rare species including the Carolina Creekshell and the Timber Rattlesnake.

“The LandTrust is excited to be a part of this celebration,” Executive Director Travis Morehead. “This scenic property is a fantastic addition to the park. This beautiful creek is one of the treasures of Morrow Mountain State Park.”

Funding from this acquisition came from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund(PARTF), Fred and Alice Stanback, and other private donors.
