A China Grove man who was killed when a tree crashed onto his truck will be laid to rest on Sunday.

78-year-old Sidney Albright was killed and two of his family members were injured after a tree fell on a vehicle in Lenoir Friday afternoon.

According to the Lenoir Police Department, the incident happened around 3 p.m. as officers and fire crews responded to the entrance of Green Mountain Park  in the 2400 block of Dimmette Road in reference to a tree striking a vehicle.

The National Weather Service said straight line winds knocked over a tree, or trees, onto the car.

According to officials, early factors of the investigation revealed that Albright was leaving Green Mountain Park in a silver Chevrolet Silverado when a tree fell and struck his vehicle during a storm that was moving through the area.

Albright was pronounced dead at the scene by Caldwell County EMS.

Two other family members who were inside of the truck with Albright were transported to Caldwell UNC Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries, and are expected to make a full recovery.

Funeral services for Albright will begin at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 8, at Back Creek Presbyterian Church, conducted by Pastor William “Bill” Thraikill and Rev. Trent Jones.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., at the church, following the committal service.
