Procession bearing body of fallen firefighter coming through Rowan County today

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A procession for Rowan County (West Liberty) firefighter Michael Goodnight is scheduled for Friday. Officials say the procession should begin between 2 and 4 p.m.

Goodnight died on Wednesday afternoon after crashing his pick up truck with another vehicle on Gold Knob Road in eastern Rowan County. Goodnight was responding to a call at the time of the accident.

The procession will be from the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh, going to Summersett Funeral Home at 1355 W. Innes Street in Salisbury.

The route will be from the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh to Blue Ridge Road to Wade Avenue to I-40 West, then to I-85 split in Guilford County, and south towards Salisbury.  The procession will then take exit 76 off I-85 to East Innes Street, and conclude at Summersett Funeral Home.

Services will be held Monday at West Liberty Fire Department located at 135 St. Matthews Church Rd.
