A Rowan County K-9 that assisted in dozens of cases over the past 10 years sadly passed away last month.
"K-9 Kilo came to the sheriff's office in November 2008 and worked up until his death for a total of 10 years and 2 months," deputies said.
The K-9, assigned to Deputy Wes Smith, was used to track lost children, elderly citizens and people wanted for crimes. Kilo was used by law enforcement as well as the Rowan/Salisbury school system.
Kilo was 13 years old when he passed on June 22.
"K-9 Kilo's largest drug seizure was over 355 pounds of marijuana and the most significant track he ran was the capture of a bank robber suspect that had committed an armed robbery," deputies said.
