Part of Highway 421 reopened after closure due to gas leak

BOONE, NC (WBTV) - A part of U.S. Highway 421 is reopened after a closure due to a gas leak Thursday night.

According to the Boone Police Department, U.S. Highway 421 was shut down at the New River Bridge coming into Boone.

The Boone Fire Department says the closure was expected to last well into Friday and citizens were advised to use detours and avoid the area.

Police advised citizens to be aware of the road closure in the area of Highway 421 South including parts of Bamboo and Brookshire Road.

Officials advised a truck traffic detour using Highway 321

For local traffic coming in to Boone, drivers can detour at Old 421 and Food Lion then travel Browns Chapel Road, then left on Bamboo Road, then right on Deerfield Road to US 321.

Those coming out of Boone can travel US 321 to Deerfield Road, then left on Bamboo Road, then right on Brown's Chapel Road, then left on Old 421 to US 421.
