FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - If you were thinking about building a home in popular York County town, then you may want to think again!
You will soon have a hefty price to pay for new home construction in one of the most popular places to buy a home in our area.
It was a packed house at the York County Council Wednesday night as the council voted to move forward with a Fort Mill impact fee. The meeting lasted over four hours.
This would add a $18,000 impact fee per new home built in the town. It's the that's the maximum fee allowed.
The Fort Mill School District stands to benefit from a higher impact fee. School officials posted on Facebook that this impact fee would allow "growth to pay for growth."
Some members of the Home Builders Association have said they're concerned this will stunt growth and that the full impact of new home construction isn't being considered.
According to our news partners CN2, it was a 5-2 vote passing the second reading. There will need to be one more reading regarding the impact fee.
