25-year-old woman killed in Rowan County shooting, suspect in custody

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A person was shot and killed in Rowan County Sunday morning.

Officials say the shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Long Street. Officials responded to reports of shots fired into a dwelling where a 25-year-old female was struck by a bullet. 

Deputies located Mirah Turner and started rendering aid to the victim as Rowan EMS arrived. Turner was pronounced dead on the scene. 

According to a report, Turner was inside her home with her mother when the suspect arrived and attempted to force their way into the home. The victim attempted to close the door to the house as the suspect fired multiple shots striking the victim.

Witt Darnell Alexander Jr. was identified as the suspect in the shooting and was later arrested. No other suspects have been identified.

Alexander was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond.
