Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to host regional conference in Charlotte

The Mid-Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will host its 65th Regional Conference in downtown Charlotte April 18-22, 2018, bringing nearly 3,000 members and guests to the city. During the conference, members will participate in volunteer projects, attend workshops and celebrate the Sorority's Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Joyce Henderson, as she completes her second term of office. The conference theme is "A Krowning Achievement through New Dimensions of Service."

"Charlotte will always be a very special place for me because I was installed as Regional Director in this city during our Sorority's 2014 International Conference where we painted the city pink and green and hosted the largest formal dinner ever held in North Carolina with 10,450 people in attendance," said Joyce Henderson, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director.

"As our members from across Virginia and North Carolina gather in the Queen City, we look forward to giving back to the community by donating backpacks filled with school supplies to area schools in support of our Sorority's international initiative One Million Backpacks campaign. In addition, we'll honor several leaders and visionaries who have made a significant impact in the Charlotte community during our Public Meeting on Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. in the Charlotte Convention Center."

"From elected officials to educators to law enforcement, we're proud to recognize our honorees for their contributions and dedication to make Charlotte and the surrounding community a better place to live for everyone."

During the four-day conference, members will also attend workshops and business meetings. More than 11,500 members of the Sorority attended its international conference when it was held in Charlotte in July 2014.
