Coroner identifies Upstate motorcyclist killed after striking vehicle, ejected on I-85 N

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner confirms an Upstate motorcycle driver was killed after being ejected from his motorcycle on I-85 N early Saturday.

The coroner said the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on I-85 shortly after 1 a.m. when he struck another vehicle from behind near mile marker 54. He was then ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead on scene at 1:21 a.m.

The motorcyclist was identified as 36-year-old Frank Austin Smith of Welford. It is believed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. His cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

Per troopers, the other driver was not injured.

The coroner ruled the collision as an accident. Troopers say no charges have been filed.

The fatal collision is under investigation.
