Police: Man shot in northeast Charlotte asks homeowner for 'help'

A woman has been charged after a man was shot in northeast Charlotte near University City Thursday morning. 

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, officers received a call of an attempted break-in at a home in the 4800 block of Abercromby Street. Upon arrival, police said they found a man who had been shot trying to get help from a homeowner.

Police say the victim had been shot at a different location before he arrived to the home. Detectives have arrested and charged Natasha Sterling, 21, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Officers initially said the shooting was a break-in but then said that the victim was "simply seeking help." Police said officers are trying to find the area where the man had been shot. 

The man was transported by MEDIC, police say.

Police have not released information on the extent of the victim's injuries. 

Additional people may be charged, police say.
