Rock Hill Schools announces $42,000 donation to Pack the Bag program

ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - The Rock Hill School's Education Foundation announced it would be receiving a large donation for its Pack the Bag program Wednesday morning.

The Walmart Foundation donated $42,000 to Pack the Bag. It is a discreet program that provides about 700 students in the school district with bags of snacks to take home on the weekends. It targets at-risk children who may not get any food outside of school.

School leaders hope the bags will keep the children succeeding in the classroom, without the distraction of an empty stomach.

"My children have all the resources they need, but I know that some of their classmates are not. So this puts their friends on an even playing field with them so that they can learn at an equal rate and do great things in their futures too," Executive Director of the Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation Amanda Haskin said.

Haskin says the donation will be used to put more nutritious and protein-packed snacks in the bags.

The program runs off of grant money and community donations. Students from Kindergarten to eighth grade who participate, pick the bags up every Friday before going home.
