Proposed flyover bridge to ease congestion around Concord Mills Mall

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) -

A proposed flyover bridge could offer relief for those traveling around Concord Mills Mall.

A two-lane flyover bridge will connect Interstate 85 at Concord Mills Boulevard to Kings Grant Pavillion, the mall's main entrance.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation credits the proposed improvement a $10.2 million contract awarded to Blythe Development Co. of Charlotte.

"The bridge will replace the existing left turn lanes at the intersection, improving traffic flow on Concord Mills Boulevard," NCDOT says.

Work will begin as early as May 1. Crews expect to have the roadway portion complete by June 15.

"This was one of eight road and bridge projects recently awarded by the department. They were worth about $110.6 million, about $20.2 million under engineer estimates," NCDOT says.
