SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Salisbury-Rowan Utilities crews were kept busy on Friday and Saturday repairing water main breaks, including one that will close a portion of a street for an extended period of time.
According to the city, S. Fulton Street from Maupin Avenue to South Main Street will be closed until Monday.
At the home of Megan Stewart the rupture created a sink hole.
"Fulton St looks like a earthquake hit it," Stewart said. "The road was actually lifted from the pressure. We felt our entire house shake. I'm the house next door to Downtown Graphics. We no longer have a driveway."
On Saturday morning there was a significant break near the intersection of South Fulton Street and South Main Street. South Fulton was closed from Maupin Avenue to South Main Street while crews worked to make repairs. That pipe repair should be done by 9 p.m. Saturday, but roads will likely be frozen over.
On Friday there was a break near the intersection of Statesville Boulevard and West Innes Street. Workers had to fix the break, but also work to keep sand on the ice that formed on the streets from the water leak.
