ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Students who attend an elementary school in Rowan County will be sent home Friday after there was no heat inside the building.

According to officials with Rowan-Salisbury Schools, class was canceled Friday for students who attend Granite Quarry Elementary due to there being no heat working inside the school.

The students will be sent home after breakfast since buses were already in transit when school officials issued the cancellation, school officials said.

School officials released this statement Friday:

"No child will be left at their home without a parent or guardian at home. Those children will return back to school until a parent makes arrangements with the school to pick up their child."

A two-hour delay was declared for Rowan-Salisbury School students Friday "due to predictions of extremely cold temps."

"Iredell-Statesville Schools takes into consideration many factors when making decisions about delaying, dismissing early, or canceling school," school officials say, "However, when a wind chill factor such as this is anticipated, we must take caution with our students who may be waiting on their school bus."
