Students charged following drug search at West Iredell High School

IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Two students were charged following a drug search at West Iredell High School Wednesday.

Deputies say they were called to West Iredell High School on Wednesday to assist the school resource officer in a search of the high school.

Following the search, with K9 assistance, 16-year-old Ethan Ray Aldridge and 19-year-old Erica Nichole Brandy were charged.

Aldridge was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and Brandy was charged with possession of marijuana.

"We will utilize every method we can as a sheriff's office in order to keep and maintain safe and drug free environments where our children learn and gather, by working with school personnel and staff we hope to keep the element of surprise on our side when we utilize our canines and conduct searches at our schools.," sheriff Darren Campbell said. "I strongly encourage the school resource officers to be vigilant and aggressive in the enforcement of the 'Zero Tolerance' Philosophy of drugs in our county schools."

West Iredell High School is located on Warrior Drive in Statesville.
