SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A wind chill advisory is in effect for several counties including Rowan, Iredell, Burke, Catawba, Watauga, Alexander, Wilkes, and more from midnight on Thursday until 10:00 am on Friday morning.
Very cold wind chills expected. Wind chill values will fall to between zero and minus 5.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.
The cold wind chills may cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. A reinforcing cold front moving southeast of the area this morning is bringing renewed cold air and very windy conditions back into the mountains.
Bitter or dangerous wind chill values are ongoing across much of the mountains this morning. Bitter wind chill values will redevelop late today through tonight in these same areas, and also expand out along the Interstate 40 corridor in western North Carolina.
Very windy conditions will continue over the higher terrain as well.
