Joint investigation with U.S. Marshals Service led to arrest of Burke Co. man

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A joint investigation with the United States Marshals Service and Burke County deputies led to the arrest of an absconded registered sex offender.

Joseph Hal Shew had been on the Most Wanted list in Iredell County for sex offender registration violation(s) for approximately one year.

Upon further investigation, Shew was located living in the Valdese area of Burke County under an assumed name and was rarely seen in public.

Shew was arrested Jan. 2 during a traffic stop in Iredell County. He was placed under a $50,000 secured bond.

Burke County investigators will be issuing warrants on Shew for being an unregistered sex offender.
