They're extremely eco-friendly. They're zero emissions, emitting only water vapor when they run. They also don't use gasoline, so they don't use natural resources like traditional and hybrid cars do. You can feel good about going green when you get behind the wheel.
They're easy to "fuel up". All you have to do is plug them in, so you can do it in the comfort of your own garage. Also, if you need a charge when you're out and about, a lot of cities have charging stations where you can park and charge while you go about your day.
They're cheaper to own. Electric cars cost about 1/3 as much as gasoline-powered cars to operate because you're not paying for gas. Also, since they don't use gasoline, you don't have to pay for oil changes or exhaust issues. Maintenance costs come down (and also you spend less time at the mechanic's waiting around).
They're pleasant to drive. Electric cars are quiet and smooth so you'll have a peaceful drive time inside the cabin every time you get behind the wheel. However, the power is delivered right to the wheels when you step on the gas, so you still have get-up-and-go.
- They’re more expensive, at least initially. You’ll have to put more money down up front, but remember that the operating and ownership costs are lower for these vehicles. Is it worth it?
- They have a limited range – most electric vehicles can go around 100 miles before needing a charge. If you do a lot of long-distance driving, they may be more of a hassle for you.
- They don’t have a lot of power, so if towing, hauling, or off-roading are on your daily list of to-dos, then you’ll need to look elsewhere.
