Power outage affects over 2,000 Gastonia residents

GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - More than 2,000 Gastonia residents were without power for some time Tuesday morning.

According to the city of Gastonia outage map, the outages were first reported around 5:12 a.m. The bulk of the reported outages occurred on the southeast side of the city, south of Sen Marshall Arthur Rauch Highway.

The power was restored around 9 a.m., city officials said.

City officials said a Duke Energy generator located at an electrical substation on South New Hope Road stopped working, prompting the outage. Officials released this statement Tuesday afternoon:

"Duke is in the process of upgrading its transmission lines to that substation and has been using a backup generator during the improvements."

In total, 2,200 Gastonia residents were affected by the outage.
