Car crashes into a power pole leaving thousands without power in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Nearly 2,000 people are without power in east Charlotte after a car ran into a power pole early Sunday morning. 

The incident occurred near the intersection of Eastway Drive and Central Avenue at 6:15 a.m. 

Police are investigating what caused the crash but believe it could be a possible DWI case.

The driver of the car was transported to CMC Main with serious injuries.

Power is expected to be out for the next few hours.
