CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) -

A pedestrian struck and killed in Concord Wednesday evening was identified by police Thursday as 61-year-old Roger Eric Mergendahl.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. on Hwy 49 near Central Heights Drive. Police say the driver was alone when he struck Mergendahl, who was attempting to cross the road.

Witnesses say the driver had a green light at the time.

Mergendahl, of Concord, died at the scene. Police say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

No charges are expected, police say.
