ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Rowan County home caught fire Wednesday afternoon near I-85.
The fire occurred around 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Hope Lane just south of Salisbury. Firefighters said flames were showing upon arrival.
According to firefighters, four adults and one child were inside the home and made it out safely, but the house was a total loss. The Hanford Dole Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
A witness who was driving on I-85 at the time described the front of the home as being completely engulfed by fire.
One challenge for firefighters was getting water to the scene.
"The closest hydrant is about a half mile, and we're on a dead end road due to the railroad tracks shutting off Mt. Hope Church Road." said Bostian Heights Fire Chief Mike Zimmerman. "We used several water points, so it takes tankers to haul water in."
Officials have not said what caused the fire or released estimates on the total amount of damage.
