CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Many of you are getting ready to hit the roads or hop on a plane to head elsewhere for the Christmas holiday weekend. If you're planning to fly out of the Charlotte International Airport, you may need to pack your patience!
Triple A expects more than 107 million people will be traveling somewhere for the holiday, and the Friday before Christmas is expected to be the busiest day at Charlotte's airport.
More than 30,000 additional travelers will be flying in and out of the airport on top of their 100,000 daily passengers. Security lines opened at 4 a.m. but many people were already in line at least an hour before.
People flying out to see loved ones in other states say they arrived at least two hours early as airport officials suggested.
Airport officials also recommend checking online for updates on parking lot capacity. They say drivers should use the hourly deck for picking up and d ropping off. It is free for the first hour and walking distance to the terminal.
People also need to be aware of changes including the relocation of the cell phone lot, which is now adjacent to Long Term Lot 1. Many departing passengers tell WBTV they were d ropped off by Uber or by friends to avoid busy parking garages.
There are also extra traffic officers outside and staff inside to help make the day of travel as smooth as possible.
