CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A crash shut down a portion of Interstate 77 in west Charlotte for some time Thursday morning.

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the wreck blocked all of the lanes on I-77 northbound at John Belk Freeway at Wilkinson Boulevard for some time. Firefighters tweeted about the incident just before 5:30 a.m. and said there are "significant delays in area" due to the incident.

MEDIC said one person was seriously injured and another person had minor injuries. Both of the people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy, according to MEDIC.

Drivers were asked to take alternate routes.

It is unclear when the lanes are expected to reopen.
