RAEFORD, N.C. (AP) - The Latest on a teacher who was attacked after school on campus in North Carolina (all times local):

4:05 p.m.

Authorities say they have arrested a man wanted for attacking a teacher at a North Carolina elementary school.

Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said 34-year-old Michael Lee Nivens was wanted in connection with the attack Monday at West Hoke Elementary School near Raeford. Nivens is charged with attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Peterkin said Nivens was also wanted for unrelated sexual assault and church thefts.

Peterkin says Nivens went inside the school around 5:45 p.m. Monday and asked the teacher about a former employee at the school, then started beating her in the head with an object.

The sheriff said in a news release that the teacher is recovering from her injuries, and the students remaining at the school for afterschool care were elsewhere in the building.

Peterkin says Nivens was arrested in neighboring Robeson County, but did not release details. The statement did not indicate if Nivens had a lawyer.
