CALHOUN FALLS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Funeral details have been announced for the Upstate man who was killed by a falling tree as Tropical Storm Irma battered the area with rain and strong winds.

The coroner said around 3 p.m. Monday, Charles Robert Saxon, 57, was clearing a fallen limb on South Hampton Avenue when another limb fell on him.

He death was ruled accidental.

"He was a good man, loved his family and community," Sonya Hicks, Saxon's step-daughter, said. "He will be missed more than words can express."

Hicks shared a photo of Saxon with two of his grandchildren, Sara and Lynlei. She said he is also survived by two sons, Chris and Josh, two daughters Jennifer and Nicci and a step daughter Sonya. He also had several other grandchildren, Noah, Gabe, Maxx, Cameron, Rylan, Brady and Mary.

Saxon also leaves behind a wife, Betty. They were married in 2005, Hicks said.

Calhoun Falls Mayor Johnnie Waller said Saxon always spoke about his grandchildren and "loved them with all of his heart."

Waller was a neighbor and friend of Saxon's.

The mayor said Saxon did a lot of work in the community and was trying to clear a limb blocking the street when the accident happened.

Waller said firefighters tried to render CPR but Saxon succumbed to his injuries.

"He was a very good person," Waller said.

Hicks said members of the community gathered on Thursday to clear the tree that killed Saxon. They paused to pray for Saxon's family before they cleared the timber and debris from the yard.

Hicks said visitation and funeral services would be held Friday.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m.and the funeral will begin at 3 p.m., both at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Warrenton Presbyterian Church.
