CABARRUS COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Katie Woody says she can not imagine waking up without any diapers for her newborn.

"It really hits home being a mom," Woody said.

Woody is just one of several moms across Cabarrus County who are collecting diapers for Hurricane Harvey victims. She heard about the drive on Facebook, and thought immediately of her mother's flower shop in Maiden.

"We'll just open it up here," she remembers saying.

And, in just a few days, towers of boxes littered her mother's business.

"I never imagined it'd be this much," Woody says.

Neighbors in the small town continue to come by and make their contributions, with a hug and a smile.

Woody says she remembers losing her home to a fire several years ago. Her neighbors helped then, but now, she cannot imagine what it must be like for those in Houston.

"These people, their neighbors, everybody's in the same situation," Woody says. "There's nobody to help."

Now, Woody's neighbors are helping again, this time for strangers hundreds of miles away. Each are doing their part for the littlest victims of Houston's historic flooding.

"Even though we're one little town in a state, we're making a big impact," she says.
