SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will soon begin work replacing the Pine Ridge Road bridge that crosses over I-85 in China Grove.
"The original bridge was built in 1967, and its design no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it," said Senior Assistant Resident Engineer Christopher Fine.
The portion of road will be closed from Tuesday, Sept. 5, until work is complete by June 2018.
Motorists will be able to use U.S. 29 and Lentz Road to detour around the closure.
"This work is taking place as part of the I-85 Corridor Improvement Project in Rowan and Cabarrus counties," said Division Nine Engineer Pat Ivey.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
