CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is distributing over 700 backpacks at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school.
Davis is partnering with Classroom Central and Carolina Panthers Charities to distribute the much-needed school supplies to students at Merry Oaks Elementary.
The backpacks, worth more than $33,283, will be filled with school supplies.
Davis will be joined by fellow Panthers players, TopCats Cheerleaders, Panthers team mascot Sir Purr, and volunteers from the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation.
The Dream Foundation, founded by Davis and his wife Kelly in 2008, "aims to enhance the quality of life for thousands of underprivileged children and their families annually through a variety of free programming."
The giveaway is part of Classroom Central's Backpacks & Basics Program, which gives the region's highest poverty schools supply kits and backpacks for their entire student body.
Since 2014, the Defending Dreams Foundation and Classroom Central have partnered to distribute over $100,000 in school supplies to nearly 2,220 students.
